Athletic Booster Club To Present Fall All-Sports Tailgate

WAYNE – Fall sport athlete participants and coaches will be recognized as events will be in full swing over the next few months at Wayne Community Schools.

Join the Booster Club Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m. for the Fall All-Sports Tailgate in the west parking lot of the high school.

Booster Club President, Adam Endicott said they assisted the WHS volleyball team in buying an iPad to help them track their stats along with assisting with uniforms.

“Anything that we can help make our student-athletes more competitive and hopefully give them an edge,” said Endicott.

Donations also go towards the Hudl program and weight lifting program that the school uses.

The Marty Summerfield Classic was recently held on August 4 where all the proceeds go to the Athletics Booster Club. In 2017, the group purchased the new scoreboard in the gym as well as purchasing weights and equipment for the weight room. This year, the Booster Club is helping create the digital trophy case where all records and team accolades will be on a touch-screen TV at the school.

Participants in dance, cheerleading, girls golf, girls and boys cross country, softball, volleyball and football will introduce themselves and say which grade they’re in Friday. Also, head coaches will talk about what they’re looking forward to this year.

The band will perform as Friday night’s free meal will feature a hotdog, chips and a drink.

Endicott added the event is there to help the community connect with the student-athletes.

“To recognize the kid, I think the kids enjoy that and I think that’s important,” Endicott added. “To see the community come together and everybody just interacting with each other, everybody talking to each other, it’s a way to get out and meet everybody.”

Parents or anybody can sign up to become a Booster Club member. Members will be recognized from different levels and for each membership, window stickers with the Blue Devil logo will be handed out. Stickers will be available for purchase as well.

Game Sponsors are also an opportunity for parents to purchase for $30.

Another Booster Club event is the Northeast Nebraska Shootout Holiday Basketball Tournament in late December.

To show their appreciation to the student-athletes, the Booster Club will be purchasing the 2018-19 Student-Athlete Activity pass for each athlete.

“That’s the pass for the athletes to get into all the sporting events for the whole year,” Endicott mentioned. “So, if you’re a volleyball player you get into the football games, basketball games, vice-versa.”

The Wayne Booster Club meets every second Sunday of the month at 6:30 p.m. from the high school and are always looking for volunteers.
