Area Teams Remain Rated Moving Into Postseason Competition

LINCOLN/OMAHA – There weren’t too many changes in the final regular season rankings for high school football teams across the state as Classes A, D1 and D2 prepare for their second round while B, C1, C2 and six-man open postseason competition this Friday.

According to a release from the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World Herald, the Wayne High football team remained at #9 in the LJS and #8 in the OWH. WHS suffered a 19-9 setback to the number one team in the state in both ratings, Pierce. The only change in the C1 top 10 saw Battle Creek jump in with their 6-3 record to #10 while Logan View/Scribner-Snyder saw their seven-game winning streak snapped now at 7-2 dropping out of the LJS.

The Blue Devils ended the regular season with a 6-3 record qualifying for the C1 playoffs for the second straight year and third time in the past four years. WHS earned the #9 seed and will travel to Hastings to face #8 Adams Central (7-2). The Patriots snapped a two-game losing streak by winning at Filmore Central (49-14) and are rated #5 in the OWH and #6 in the LJS.

In Class C2, the only change came from Hartington Cedar Catholic dropping a spot to #7 in the OWH and #9 in the LJS as Norfolk Catholic remained #5 in the OWH and moved up a spot to #8 in the LJS. The Knights secured their fifth straight victory last Friday (6-2) defeating Cedar Catholic (7-2), 14-10.

Grand Island Central Catholic (5-4) was replaced by Crofton (5-4) in the LJS and North Platte St. Patrick’s (7-1) in the OWH following a week nine loss for the Crusaders.

Other area teams still rated:

C1: #1 Pierce remained at the top spot at 8-0. The Bluejays (#2) will open the C1 playoffs Friday hosting #15 West Point-Beemer (6-3) at 7 p.m.

C2: #5/#8 Norfolk Catholic earned the #7 seed in the C2 playoffs and will host #10 Aquinas Catholic (7-2) at 7 p.m. Friday in Norfolk following an eight-man playoff game. The David City team is rated #4 in the LJS and #8 in the OWH.

C2: #7/#9 HCC earned the #11 seed and gets to travel across the state to #6 Bridgeport (6-1) for a 3 p.m. CST kickoff Friday.

C2: #10 Crofton (LJS) earned their ranking with all four of their losses coming to rated opponents and will travel to #3 Oakland-Craig (7-1) Friday at 7 p.m. as the #14 seed. The Knights topped the Warriors, 30-13 on September 11.

D1: #5 Wakefield remained in both rankings but are ineligible for the playoffs due to numbers playing down a class.

D1: #7 Stanton (7-1) stayed in the same spot in both rankings. The Mustangs defeated Exeter-Milligan/Friend in the opening round and were re-seeded at #5. Stanton will visit #12 Arcadia-Loup City (6-3) Friday at 6 p.m.

D1: #9/#10 Lutheran High Northeast (8-1) remained the same. The Eagles defeated Elmwood-Murdock and drew the #8 seed in the second round. LHNE will next host #9 Weeping Water (7-1) at 3 p.m. Friday. Weeping Water is #10 in the LJS.

D2: #9 Allen (7-0) in the LJS defeated Johnson-Brock last week. The Eagles were re-seeded at #7 and will host #10 Kenesaw (7-1) at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
