KTCH/KCTY Will Follow 78 Area High School Wrestlers During NSAA State Championships

OMAHA – Individual state wrestling qualifiers are making their way to Omaha for the 2020 NSAA State Wrestling Championships.

Over a three-day period, wrestlers will lay it all on the line for the ultimate goal, champion.

From the CHI Health Center in Omaha, KTCH/KCTY will follow 19 teams with 78 wrestlers.

Class B teams that we’ll follow include Wayne, Pierce and West Point-Beemer while Class C teams that have state representation are Battle Creek, Crofton/Bloomfield, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Lutheran High Northeast, Quad County Northeast (LCC/Randolph), Norfolk Catholic, Ponca and Wisner-Pilger.

Class A teams are Norfolk and South Sioux City as well as Class D state wrestling individuals from Creighton, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, Pender, Plainview, Stanton and Winside.

Class B and C wrestlers will open their first session at 9:30 a.m. followed by Classes A/D at 4 p.m. on Thursday, February 20. First round matches will be followed by the quarterfinals.

Moving into Friday, February 21, Class B and C wrestlers will again open the day at 9:30 a.m. followed by Classes A and D at 12:30 p.m. for first and second round consolations. All classes will be in action at 5 p.m. Friday for semifinal matches and third round consolations.

Championship Saturday will get underway at 8:30 a.m. for all classes with consolation semifinals as well as third and fifth place matches. Finals will start at 2 p.m. for all classes.

Class B: three teams with 20 wrestlers

 

(10) Pierce (B-3): Ashton Schweitzer (152) and Brett Tinker (170) were district champions; Brock Bolling (113), Jeremiah Kruntorad (138), Michael Kruntorad (145) and Dylan Kuehler (220) took second; Jayden Coulter (120), Carter Jensen (132) and Parker Sackville (182) placed third while Zander Schweitzer (160) finished fourth

(6) Wayne (B-3): Reece Jaqua (126) and Mike Leatherdale (285) finished runner-up, Reid Korth (170) and Cade Janke (195) took third as Dakota Spann (182) and Martin Carrillo (220) placed fourth.

(4) West Point-Beemer (B-3): Joe Rodriguez (220) placed third while Jamison Evert (113), Garret Kaup (138) and David Garcia (285) all finished fourth

 

 

 

Class C: 8 teams with 20 wrestlers

 

(6) Battle Creek (C-2): Carter King (120) and Owen Lade (132) were district champions; Korbyn Battershaw (138) and Kase Thompson (170) finished third while Jaxson Hassler (106) and Dahlas Zlomke (220) placed fourth

 (3) Crofton/Bloomfield (C-3): Hudson Barger (106), Tyson Sauser (138) and Jared Janssen (220) placed third

(2) HCC (C-1): Eric Hoesing (170) placed third, Conner Hochstein (152) finished fourth

(1) Lutheran High Northeast (C-2): Jazper Ames (195) finished fourth

(1) Quad County Northeast (LCC/Randolph) (C-3): Kolby Casey (195) took fourth.

(3) Norfolk Catholic (C-1): Wyatt Smydra (145) finished second, Allan Olander (138) placed third and Francisco Mendez (160) took fourth

(1) Ponca (C-1): Dalton Anderson (126) was crowned district champion

(3) Wisner-Pilger (C-3): Gavin Lampman (145) and Landon Beaver (220) both finished runner-up while Anthony Palmer (182) placed fourth.

 

Class A: Two teams with 14 wrestlers

 

 (10) Norfolk High (A-3): Weston Godfrey (126), Jacob Licking (145), Joshua Licking (152), Brayden Splater (160) and Brayden Heffner (220) finished second; Aaron Dittmer (132), Austin Miller (170), Hunter Mangelsen (182) and Laikon Ames (195) took third while Calvin Empkey (113) placed fourth

 (4) South Sioux City (A-2): Jacob Ngeleka (285) finished second while Caleb Kriens (160), Adan Cruiel (170) and Saul Morales (195) placed third

 

Class D: Six teams with 24 wrestlers

 

(2) Creighton (D-1): Cody Hanvey (145) and Sam Vortherms (160) placed fourth

(2) GACC (D-2): Cash Meier (182) placed second and Mitchell Peatrowski (220) finished fourth

(3) Pender (D-1): Braxton Volk (113) finished third as well as Zachery Randall (152) and Eric Hathaway (285) placed fourth.

(11) Plainview (D-1): Eli Lanham (106), Scout Ashburn (113), Nate Christensen (138), Alizae Mejia (170) and Collin Gale (220) were district champions, Keagan (132), Bode Wortman (145), Will Gunning (152) and Matt Christensen (160) placed second; Ashton Dane (106) finished third and Lucas Hammer (182) took fourth

(2) Stanton (D-2): Issiah Borgmann (170) was crowned district champion and Sutton Pohlman (182) placed second

(4) Winside (D-2): Cayden Ellis (113) and Gabe Escalante (138) were crowned district champions while Art Escalante (132) placed third.
