Area Football Teams Listed Among Weekly Rankings, Wayne Drops To #6 In Both Polls

WAYNE/WAKEFIELD – The Wayne High football program dropped in the rankings following a tough overtime home loss while the Wakefield Trojans moved up in one of the polls after dominating on the road.

According to the weekly rankings release from the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star, Wayne High is now #6 in both polls while Wakefield remained #5 in the Omaha World Herald but moved up a spot to #6 in the Lincoln Journal Star.

WHS suffered their first loss of the season after then #3/#6 Ashland-Greenwood topped the Blue Devils 28-20 in overtime. Wayne High is now 3-1 on the season while the Bluejays improved to 4-0 and moved up a spot in the OWH to #2 and up one spot to #5 in the LJS.

Wakefield remained undefeated at 4-0 following a 40-8 road win at then #8 Lutheran High Northeast on Saturday. The Eagles dropped out of the OWH rankings now at 3-1.

Next up for the Blue Devils will be at Battle Creek who is 3-1 on Friday, September 25 before traveling to #8 (OWH) Norfolk Catholic the following Friday. The Wakefield Trojans were scheduled to play at Plainview this week, but the game has since been canceled. Wakefield was still looking to confirm an opponent this week. The next listed game for the Trojans is a home contest versus Elkhorn Valley on Friday, October 2.

 

Other area football teams in the rankings:

4-0 Pierce in Class C1 moved up one spot to #1 in the OWH and up one spot to #2 in the LJS. The Bluejays will next host Boone Central on Friday, September 25.

3-1 Stanton jumped back into the Class D1 rankings at #8 in both polls. The Mustangs were next scheduled to visit Wisner-Pilger but that game has since been canceled on September 25.

3-1 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge in Class D1 jumped into the Lincoln Journal Star rankings at #10. The Bears will next visit Hartington-Newcastle Friday, September 25.

4-0 Hartington Cedar Catholic in Class C2 remained at #8 in the LJS and #10 in the OWH. The Trojans will next visit BRLD on Friday, September 25.

1-2 Norfolk Catholic in Class C2 remained at #8 in the OWH. The Knights will next host Ponca on Thursday, September 24.
