Area Athletes Punch Ticket To State

OMAHA – With the state track & field meet less than a week away, competitors in Classes A and D punched their ticket to state with mid-week district competition.

Across the state, Class A and D pogroms were in action.

From the Hartington Community Complex in Hartington, Hartington-Newcastle hosted the D-3 District Meet Wednesday.

Wausa was crowned district champions in the girls division with 106.5 points followed by Wynot as district runner-up with 91 points. Humphrey St. Francis took third (88), Pender placed fourth (82.5) and Osmond rounded out the top five teams with 44 points. Hartington-Newcastle (sixth – 40), Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (seventh – 37), Scribner-Snyder (eighth – 18), Randolph (ninth – 14) and Winside (10th – 3) closed out team scoring.

Team scoring for the Winside girls came from Kati Topp placing fifth in the discus (97′ 4″) while the 4×800-meter relay team took sixth (12:44.22).

Osmond was crowned district champions in the boys division with 129 points followed by Hartington-Newcastle as district runner-up with 84 points. Humphrey St. Francis took third (79), Wausa placed fourth (72) and Wynot rounded out the top five teams with 59 points. Winside (sixth – 32), Pender (seventh – 31), Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family (eighth – 28), Randolph (ninth – 6) and Scribner-Snyder (10th – 1) closed out team scoring.

Leading the way for the Winside boys was Gabe Escalante winning the 200-meter dash (23.24) to qualify for state. He also finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash (11.43)and the 400-meter dash with a second place finish (52.85) to qualify for state in three events.

Also scoring points for Winside was the 4×400-meter relay team (fourth – 3:49.68) and Josh Storovich placing fifth during the discus (109′ 4″).

 

Also, Norfolk High sent their athletes to the A-4 District Meet hosted by Lincoln Northeast High School Wednesday.

The Norfolk girls finished fifth with 49 points while the Panther boys placed sixth with 44.5 points.

Millard West edged Papillion La-Vista South (139.5 – 139.33) to win the girls division while Gretna won the boys division with 111 points.
