American Legion Baseball Mid-South Region Winner Crowned, World Series Begins August 15

HASTINGS – For the eight Senior American Legion baseball teams who punched their ticket to the upcoming world series, it took the maximum amount of 15 games.

From Duncan Field in Hastings, the 2019 Mid-South Region was featured from August 7 – 11.

A pair of Nebraska teams were featured of the Class A Senior Legion champs (Fremont) and the host Hastings along with teams out of Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas.

Fremont began with three straight wins before running into Post 253 from Missouri and eventually were eliminated by Bryant (AR) on Saturday. The host Hastings, dropped their opening round game before fighting their way through the elimination round and falling one game shy of the winner-take-all championship game to the Arkansas team Sunday.

Game 15 saw Festus (MO) Post 253 defeat Bryant (AR) Black Sox (8-3).

The Mid-South Region champs will advance to the eight-team American Legion World Series beginning Thursday, August 15 through Tuesday, August 20 in Shelby, North Carolina.

Other Regional winners were Shrewsbury Post 397 (Mass.) (Northeast); Randolph County Post 45 (N.C.) (Mid-Atlantic); Destrehan Post 366 (LA) (Southeast); Danville Post 210 (Ill.) (Great Lakes); Fargo Post 2 (N.D.) (Central Plains); Idaho Falls Post 56 (Idaho) (Northwest) and Albuquerque Post 13 (N.M.) (Western).

The eight baseball teams will be separated into Stars and Stripes pool play and battle until there are two teams reaming in each division. The semifinals are scheduled for Monday, August 19 with the championship contest to be played next Tuesday.
