WAYNE – It is time for 2020 Fall sports sign-ups at the Wayne Community Activity Center.
From Tuesday, August 4 through Thursday, August 6 make plans to stop by the Activity Center to get your child signed up. Sign-up times will last from 3:30 – 6 p.m. while staff has also opened online sign-ups at cityofwayne.maxgalaxy.net.

Joey Lenihan is the Recreation Services Assistant at the Activity Center. Lenihan said the Activity Center has been doing their part following guidelines.
“Basically, we’re just asking that everyone wipe down everything that they use,” said Lenihan. “Our front desk workers are also going around and making sure everything is clean. They’re doing a little bit extra cleaning on top of our old cleaning.”
The Community Activity Center did some painting and touched-up different areas, re-did half of the track due to water leaking in through a door as well put a wall up where the concession area was creating a cardio room while making more room in the weight room.
Lenihan talked about the sign-ups.
“They’ll just come in and fill out a waiver form,” Lenihan added. “Hopefully by then we should have an idea of what the schedule would be like. We won’t have an exact schedule yet…and we’re looking for coaching volunteers.”
If interested in volunteering, contact the Activity Center as each volunteer will go through a background check and fill out a waiver form.
Youth flag football will be for those entering third and fourth grade between August 24 – October 16 while tackle football will be available for those in fifth and sixth grade between August 17 – October 16. Youth rec volleyball (third – sixth grade) will be offered from August 24 – October 16.
“We’re excited to get everything going,” Lenihan mentioned. “We’re excited to kind have the kids run around again playing the sports they love.”
The Wayne Community Activity Center, located at 901 West 7th Street, is open Monday – Friday from 5:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon and Sunday from 12:30 – 9 p.m.
Also, Art Camp Registration is going on right now until Friday, August 7. As of last week, there was one spot open for ages 5-8 and four open for ages 9-12.
The Activity Center will also be offering their After-School Program for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program will help children learn new skills and enhance old ones; develop relationships; be involved in healthy lifestyles as well as build character and reinforce values.
