#8 Wildcat Volleyball Holds Off Upper Iowa In Three Close Sets

WAYNE – With a ranked opponent coming to Wayne Saturday afternoon, #8 Wayne State College hosted a non-ranked conference foe Friday evening.

From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, WSC welcomed in Upper Iowa University.

It wasn’t easy as Upper Iowa gave all they could, but it was the host Wildcats holding on for the 3-0 sweep (25-23, 30-28, 25-23). WSC improves to 17-3 (10-2 NSIC) while the Peacocks fell to 15-6 (8-4 NSIC). Wayne State College also remains undefeated at 7-0 at Rice Auditorium.

Maggie Brahmer posted a team-high 14 kills followed by Taya Beller with 13 kills and two digs as both finished with five blocks (one solo each). Kelsie Cada paced the team in digs with 10 to go along with four kills; Rachel Walker finished with 34 set assists, five digs and a kill; Alaina Wolff totaled eight digs; Jordan McCormick had seven digs; Elly Larson and Jazlin DeHaan both tallied two kills and two digs as Jessie Brandl added seven digs and a kill.

Five different Wildcats had a service ace being Cada, Wolff, McCormick, Walker and DeHaan. Larson totaled two blocks (one solo); Walker had five total blocks as Cada and DeHaan both finished with a block.

WSC edged Upper Iowa in the attack percentage, .248 to .200 and controlled the net with 11 blocks compared to three teams blocks from the Peacocks.

#8 Wayne State College will next host #12 Winona State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
