WAYNE – A pair of top five NSIC volleyball programs went to battle Friday night in Wayne America.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, #5 WSC welcomed in #3 Concordia-St. Paul.
Close sets early favored Wayne State 26-24 and 25-23 before WSC finished off the Golden Bears 25-16 in straight sets. The Wildcats are now 10-0 on the season and open NSIC play at 1-0 while Concordia-St. Paul fell to 7-2 (0-1 NSIC).
Kelsie Cada posted a team-high 14 kills to go along with six digs and two blocks; Taya Beller added 10 kills and four blocks as Maggie Brahmer finished with nine kills and five blocks (two solo).
Rachel Walker recorded 31 assists, eight digs, two kills and two blocks while Jessie Brandl led the team in digs with 10.
Jordan McCormick tacked on five kills, two blocks and nine digs; Taylor Bunjer had two kills, a block and a dig; Havyn Heinz tallied eight digs as Brooke Peltz came away with two digs.
Cada and McCormick both had two service aces as Heinz added an ace.
WSC outhit CSP, .359 to .215 and recorded nine blocks compared to two from the Golden Bears.
#5 Wayne State College will next host Minnesota State-Mankato at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 10.
