#5 Wayne State College Finishes Off Home Weekend 2-0, Kneifl Records 400th Career Win

WAYNE – #5 Wayne State College went back work Saturday afternoon for their second straight home conference match.

Back at Rice Auditorium, WSC welcomed in Minnesota State-Mankato.

Wayne State College secured yet another sweep on the season of 25-12, 28-26, 25-17 over the Mavericks. WSC is now 11-0 (2-0 NSIC) on the season while the Mavericks fell to 1-9 (0-2 NSIC).

Head coach Scott Kneifl also recorded win number 400 and 401 over the weekend. The 18-year veteran is now 401-139 overall and 226-86 in NSIC play.

Double figure kills came from Kelsie Cada with 15 (nine digs/two blocks) and Taya Beller with 13 (two digs/two blocks). Maggie Brahmer added nine kills, six blocks (one solo) and a dig; Rachel Walker provided 37 assists, eight digs and a kill as Jessie Brandl finished with a team-high 13 digs.

Taylor Bunjer tacked on five kills, four digs and five blocks; Jordan McCormick had four digs and three kills; Brooke Peltz tallied four digs as Havyn Heinz had three digs.

McCormick posted two service aces as Heinz had an ace.

WSC outhit Minnesota State-Mankato, .339 to .147 and recorded eight blocks compared to two from the Mavericks.

#5 Wayne State College will next close out non-conference play with Peru State College on Tuesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. from Rice Auditorium in Wayne. The ‘Cats will also visit Upper Iowa and Winona State on Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17.
