#4 Wayne Volleyball Suffers First Round Conference Sweep, Play #9 HCC Tuesday

PIERCE/NORFOLK – A series of conference tournament matches were held at two different locations for northeast Nebraska High School volleyball teams.

From Pierce, #4 Wayne competed with #5 Crofton Monday evening to open the Mid State Conference Volleyball Tourney.

Crofton avenged their October 7 loss to Wayne by winning in straight sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-18). Both teams are now 14-11 on the season.

Rubie Klausen paced Wayne at the net with 13 kills and 16 digs for a double-double, followed by Kate Hill with nine kills and seven digs as Sydney Redden recorded a team-high 24 digs. Reagan Backer had 16 digs; Kiara Krusemark finished with 23 set assists, nine digs and two kills; Faith Powicki tacked on seven digs; Anna Kaup added four kills as Mady Sievers tallied one kill and five digs.

Redden posted a pair of aces while Krusemark and Sievers both had a service ace. Kaup recorded two blocks (one solo) while other blocks came from Redden and Amelia Legler (both solo) as well as Klausen.

Mid State Day One Results 10-18-21

Other match results in Pierce saw #9 Hartington Cedar Catholic won in five sets over #8 O’Neill (20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 15-8) before #1 Battle Creek swept HCC (25-17, 25-20, 25-23).

From Norfolk Catholic, #3 Pierce swept #6 Norfolk Catholic (25-18, 25-16, 25-7) while #2 Guardian Angles Central Catholic swept #7 Boone Central (26-24, 25-7, 25-21).

Second day Mid State Conference Volleyball Tournament action will feature #1 Battle Creek vs. #5 Crofton at 6 p.m. this evening followed by #2 GACC vs. #3 Pierce in the winner’s bracket from Pierce while #4 Wayne will face #9 HCC at 6 p.m. followed by #6 Norfolk Catholic vs. #7 Boone Central at Norfolk Catholic HS in the loser’s bracket.
