22nd Ranked Wildcat Volleyball Travels To Florida

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – For the second straight weekend the Wayne State College volleyball team will compete in a road tournament, this time in Florida.

#22 WSC will play four matches in two days during the Nova Southeastern Tournament held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14.

WSC (4-0) will open Friday with (0-4) Belmont Abbey College (N.C.) at 11:30 a.m. and take on (2-2) Grand Valley State University (MI) at 4:30 p.m. The ‘Cats will then close out the tournament with (0-4) Florida Tech at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and (2-0) Southern New Hampshire University at 2:30 p.m.

The Wildcats will begin conference play on the road at MSU Moorhead on Friday, September 20 and at Northern State on Saturday, September 21.

Wayne State’s home opener will be against the conference foe of Augustana, but not count towards their league record. WSC will host Augustana on Tuesday, September 24 which will also mark the 14th annual Black Out/Pack The House Night match in Rice Auditorium at 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the WSC S.P.O.R.T.S. Club and presented by PED 411 Sports Marketing and Promotion Class. Fans are encouraged to wear black and help create the “Black Hole” and set a new single game attendance record in Rice. The top three crowds in WSC volleyball history have come against Nebraska-Kearney of 1,536 fans in 2010 in a five-set win; 1,411 fans in 2012 in a four-set win over #1 UNK and 1,382 fans in 2006.

WSC students are invited to tailgate at the south doors of Rice beginning at 3:45 p.m. with free hot dogs and coke products. Students are also reminded to show their college ID for a chance to win numerous prizes during the match that include flat screen TVs. The first 400 WSC students admitted into the game will receive a free t-shirt.
