Four Blue Devils Listed Among Mid State Softball All-Conference Team

WAYNE – A handful of individuals from the Wayne High softball team have earned All-Conference honors.

According to a release from Mid State Conference officials on Thursday, the 2022 Mid State All-Conference First Team and Honorable Mention players were recognized.

Junior Delaney Kruse, sophomore Taytem Ellis and freshman Mackenzie Nissen were named First Team All-Conference while freshman Nyla Bolles was credited with Honorable Mention honors.

Delaney Kruse posted team-highs in hits (28), RBIs (21), doubles (nine) and tied for first in triples (one) while also finishing with a .412 batting average.

Ellis was second in hits (26), RBIs (20), doubles (six), tied for first in triples (one) and tied for first in homeruns (one) while posting a .400 batting average.

Nissen recorded a team-high .431 batting average and finished third on the team in hits (22) and tied for third in RBIs (14). Nissen also appeared in 22 games posting a 7-4 record with a 3.65 ERA in 78 and two-thirds innings pitched. She allowed 79 runs (41 earned) off 76 hits while striking out 53 batters and walking 51.

Bolles was fourth on the team in hits (21), tied for third in RBIs (14) and was third in doubles (five). She also recorded 23 stolen bases.

The Blue Devils finished 13-9 this season and runner-up in the Mid State Conference softball tournament. WHS suffered an 8-7 loss against Aquinas Catholic in eight innings on October 3 to end their season during the C-5 Subdistrict Tournament held in Milford.

Conference tourney champion GACC finished 18-12 on the season and had six All-Conference honorees being seniors Brynn Baumert and Tori Buss as well as sophomores Adyson Luebbert and Shelby Perchal on First Team and senior Leah Jansen and junior Kiley Pojar as HM.

O’Neill, a Class B school, finished their season at 12-11 and five All-Conference representatives being seniors Harley Cahoy, Ryanne Pistulka, Emma Smith and Emma Wrede as First Team and senior Mariana Montes as HM.

Boone Central went 12-18 on the season as junior Ava Buhlmann and sophomore Payton Sullivan were tabbed First Team and senior Addy Donelson as HM.

Pierce finished 5-22 as senior Lauren Darnall, juniors Hayle DeBoer and Madelyn Hanson as well as sophomore Aubree Hanson earned Honorable Mention honors.
