WAKEFIELD – With the high school football season quickly approaching, the Wakefield Stadium Project is making great progress.

With the project being on schedule, Superintendent of Wakefield Community Schools Matt Farup said the field should be ready well before the first home opening game on September 2.

“The turf field is laid down,” said Farup. “The sub-structure is all done, and the turf is down. So, I think the next step which it goes really, really fast, they can lay the carpet out really fast.”

A dedication and ceremony will be scheduled for their home opener against Bancroft-Rosalie at 7 p.m.

Wakefield Community Schools is looking to host a soft-opening during a football scrimmage in mid-August.

Farup added the fine-tuning is also happening right now.

“So, the lettering in the endzone, the logo at center field, the hash marks and numbers,” Farup added. “Those kinds of little things that are the fine-tuning work that needs to be done.”

The turf field will be done during the week of July 25.

The scoreboard is up, the lights are up, the bleachers are roughly 85% complete, the main structure of the press box is complete with more interior work next on the timeline.

Parking to the north of the Wakefield Stadium Project is poured with some more work for sidewalks to be completed.

With NSAA fall practices beginning on Monday, August 8, Farup mentioned the field should be ready for practice.

“We’re anticipating the field turf being available to practice on and most of the heavy construction work will be around the press box area,” Farup mentioned. “So, I think it’d be safe for the kids to use the field.”

There is grass area to the east of the stadium and grass near the school for the Wakefield football team to begin their practices.

Excitement has continued to grow around the community of Wakefield for this project.

“Just having this facility, I think a lot of people are impressed,” said Farup. “Especially when the turf went in, people were like ‘wow this is really something that is going to be special.’”
