Wildcat Men Continue Hot Shooting, Secure Home Win Over #22 USF

WAYNE – Following a Friday night two-point loss, the Wayne State College men’s basketball team went back to work with a top 25 opponent.

From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, WSC welcomed in #22 Sioux Falls for the second straight day.

Wayne State led at most by 29 points and secured a 71-46 victory over USF. The ‘Cats are now 7-5 (7-3 NSIC) while Sioux Falls fell to 6-2 (4-2 NSIC). WSC outscored the Cougars 45-26 in the opening half and again 26-20 in the final 20 minutes on senior day. Ben Dentlinger and Nosa Iyagbaye were recognized.

The Wildcat men were led by junior Jordan Janssen with 11 points and seven rebounds (3-7 FG/5-6 FT) while freshman Jay Saunders added 11 points and four assists (4-6 FG/3-4 3PT). Junior Nate Mohr poured in 10 points (4-9 FG/2-5 3PT).

Other scoring came from freshman Alec Millender with nine points and five assists, junior Nate Thayer with nine points, Dentlinger with eight points, freshman Cody McCullough with seven points and seven boards as well as redshirt freshman Justin Eagins with six points and 11 rebounds.

WSC shot 26-48 (54.2%) from the field, 9-19 (47.4%) from behind the arc and 10-12 (83.3%) from the foul line.

USF was led by Tessy Pal with 11 points.

Sioux Falls finished 16-51 (31.4%) from the floor, 5-16 (31.3%) from the three-point line and 9-15 (60%) at the charity stripe.

Final road weekends for the Wayne State men include at Southwest Minnesota State on Friday and Saturday, February 12 – 13 as well as at Augustana University on Friday and Saturday, February 19 – 20.
