Pierce Juniors Hold Wayne To No Hits, Wayne Seniors Win One-Run Game

WAYNE – Post 43 American Legion baseball took part in a home mid-week doubleheader.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 entertained Pierce Wednesday evening.

During the Juniors contest, the game was quiet early before Pierce rattled off five runs in the fourth and six more in the sixth to win 11-0. Wayne fell to 1-2 on the season dropping their second straight.

Wayne Post 43 recorded no hits and had 17 strikeouts at the plate.

James Dorcey suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing five earned runs off four hits while striking out three batters and walking four. Wyatt Heikes worked two and a third innings allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out two batters and walking two. Calvin Starzl came in for the final out but allowed four runs off one hit while walking two batters.

In the Seniors contest, it was a pitcher’s dual with only six combined hits being allowed between both teams. Wayne brought in a run during the third inning and that was all Post 43 needed as they held on for their second straight win now improving to 2-0.

Blake Bartos singled and accounted for the lone run scored. Other singles came from Hagan Miller and Brock Hopkins.

Trevor DeBoer secured the win in four innings allowing two hits while striking out eight batters. Tyrus Eischeid came in for the final three innings allowing one hit while striking out three batters.
