Four Blue Devils Place First Leading To Runner-Up Finish, Jaqua Wins 100th Match

PLAINVIEW – The Wayne High wrestling team took part in a weekend invitational to open the month of February.

From Plainview high school, WHS joined 15 other teams Saturday during the Plainview Invite.

Plainview topped Wayne (312.5-185.0) to win their own invite followed by Crofton-Bloomfield in third with 149 points, Norfolk Catholic took fourth with 118 points and Winnebago rounded out the top five teams with 98.5 points.

Quad County Northeast (sixth – 92.5), Ponca (seventh – 82), West Holt (eighth – 75), Creighton (ninth – 69), Hartington Cedar Catholic (10th – 67), Osmond (11th – 58), Elgin Public/Pope John (12th – 37), Niobrara/Verdigre (13th – 35), Grand Island Central Catholic (14th – 27.5), St. Mary’s (15th – 16) and Lutheran High Northeast (16th – 11).

Wayne High champions were Ashton Munsell (120), Reece Jaqua (126), Cade Janke (195) and Mike Leatherdale (285) followed by Martin Carrillo (220) who took third. Reid Korth (170) and Dakota Spann (182) both placed fourth as Eli Barner (132) and James Dorcey (152) finished sixth.

Jaqua also posted his 100th win during the Plainview Invite.

The Wayne High wrestling team will next compete in the Mid State Conference Tournament hosted by Battle Creek on Thursday, February 6 at 2 p.m.
