Wayne White Didgets Advance To League Championship Game, Wayne Ponies Place Runner-Up

HOOPER/PENDER – Three of the youth baseball teams were in action Friday night in tri-county league play.

Semifinal action was held in the didget division from Hooper while the ponies competed in their consolation and championship round in Pender.

#1 Wayne white took on #5 Wayne blue in didget competition where the whites won 7-3. The Wayne white didgets improved to 14-0 overall while the blues fell to 13-2.

Jaxson Kneifl singled twice, drove in four runs and scored while Mason Heikes singled twice, drove in a run and scored for Wayne white. Brody Munter singled twice and scored twice; Adrian Contreras singled twice and scored; Maddux Heithold singled twice; James Birkel and Chase Sturm both singled as Blake Smith scored.

Heikes started the opening four innings allowing three runs off five hits while striking out eight batters and walking one. Kneifl worked the final two innings striking out six of seven batters faced.

#1 Wayne white will next play #3 Schuyler green on Sunday, July 14 in Hooper at 8 p.m. Wayne shutout Schuyler 9-0 on May 30. #5 Wayne blue will face #7 Howells-Dodge at 6 p.m. during the consolation round as Schuyler topped Howells/Dodge (4-1).

 

#3 Wayne took on #1 Pierce blue during the pony league title game. Pierce was crowned league champions with a 4-0 win over Wayne who placed runner-up which ended a streak of four-straight titles for the Wayne ponies.

In the consolation game, #2 West Point Patriots defeated #4 Oakland-Craig (8-1).

 

The 2019 Bronco division will play their semi-final round on Saturday, July 13 in Stanton. #6 Wayne white will face #7 Columbus Lakeview followed by #1 Oakland-Craig Sluggers white vs. #5 Pender white.
