Wayne Pony Baseball Run Rules Opponent At Home

WAYNE – With a pair of district softball tournaments going on at the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne pony baseball team took over one of the diamonds for a regular season tri-county league game.

Sunday night’s tri-co contest featured Wayne hosting Tekamah-Herman.

In five innings, Wayne defeated Tekamah-Herman 12-2 to now sit 4-1 on the season.

Calvin Starzl went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as James Dorcey tacked on an inside-the-park homer for Wayne. Zach McManigal went 2-for-3; Yair Alcantara tripled; Aidan Liston doubled while Dom Dominguez and Joe Woerdeman both singled.

Liston picked up the win in three innings allowing two runs off four hits while striking out and walking five batters each. Wyatt Heikes worked the final two innings striking out three batters.

The Wayne ponies will next visit Wakefield on Wednesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. before competing in the Wayne Tournament this weekend.
