Dirt Devil Softball Results From Lakeview Tourney

COLUMBUS – A week after the Dirt Devil 12s and 14s began softball tourney play, two other age groups opened their first games of the season over the weekend.

From the Lakeview Tourney hosted by Columbus Lakeview, the Dirt Devil 10 & Under as well as 16 & Under programs were represented Friday, May 24 – Sunday, May 26.

During the 16s games, Wayne suffered three pool play losses Saturday to Nebraska TH Gold Tigers 16/18 (5-0); Gresham Blackbirds (7-2) and Nebraska Albion 18U (11-1). The lone Sunday contest saw TH Gold 16/18 edge Wayne, 9-8 to open their season at 0-4.

 

In the opening games against Tekamah, Wayne was held to one hit from Kayla Fleming. Kendall Dorey suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing five runs (three earned) off six hits while striking out seven batters and walking four.

 

During the loss to the Blackbirds, Kayla Fleming posted two singles and drove in a run. Virginia Kniesche, Taytum Sweetland and Amara Hurlbert all singled as Brooklyn Kruse accounted for a RBI.

Hurlbert suffered the loss in two and a third innings allowing five runs (four earned) off two hits while striking out one batter and walking four. Kendall Dorey worked an inning and a third allowing two earned runs off one hit while striking out four batters and walking three.

 

From the 10-run defeat to Albion, Hurlbert singled twice and drove in a run as Aliah Schulz singled twice. Kendall Dorey and Kortney Aschoff both recorded singles.

Kendall Dorey suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing 11 runs (10 earned) off six hits while striking out seven batters and walking six. Hurlbert worked two-thirds of an inning striking out one batter.

 

In the second contest against Tekamah, Kendall Dorey recorded a single, double and two RBI for Wayne. Schulz singled twice and drove in a run as Hurlbert singled twice. Kayla Fleming and Nikki Fertig both singled and drove in a run; Hope O’Reilly singled and Brooklyn Kruse accounted for a RBI.

Kendall Dorey suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing nine runs (four earned) off five hits while striking out three batters and walking five.

 

The Dirt Devil 10s went 1-2 during pool play, according to Dirt Devil Twitter account. More results will be posted once available.

Next on the schedule for Dirt Devil softball the 10s and 12s will have back-to-back home games on Wednesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 29 while the 14s will visit Ponca at 6/7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The 10s will host Pender Wednesday and West Point 2/3 Thursday at 6/7:30 p.m. both nights as the 12s will entertain West Point #1 Wednesday at 6:15/7:45 p.m. and Pender on Thursday at 6/7:30 p.m.

The Dirt Devil Invite will also feature the 10s, 12s and 14s hosting their tournament from the Summer Sports Complex on Friday, May 31 – Sunday, June 2.
