WAYNE – Following a loss to #3 Concordia St Paul Friday night, #18 Wayne State College turned around to host un-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College Saturday afternoon, WSC competed in their third home game in the past nine days.
WSC took control early with 25-11 and 25-21 set wins before the Mavericks stormed back to win 25-17 and 25-21 forcing the fifth set. In the final set, Wayne State College won 15-12 to improve to 10-3 (3-2 NSIC) as Minnesota State-Mankato falls to 10-3 (3-2 NSIC).
Junior Katie Stephens recorded a team-high 20 kills, followed by sophomore Alyssa Ballenger with 14 kills and junior Tarrin Beller added another 11 kills. Senior Megan Gebhardt posted a team-high 50 set assists as junior Haley Kauth led WSC in digs with 16 followed by junior Morgan Alexander with 12.
WSC outhit the Mavericks, .297 to .227 and edged the Mavericks 8-7 in the block category.
The 18th ranked Wildcat volleyball team will take to the road on Friday, September 21 at Upper Iowa and visit Winona State on Saturday, September 22.
