YANKTON, SD – Both the Dirt Devil 12 as well as 16/18 & Under softball teams came away with medals during the Yankton Tourney this past weekend.

From the 12s division, Wayne dominated Saturday games with wins over Sioux Falls Energy (15-3), Thunder of Tyndall, SD (20-3) and Sioux Falls Sparks (23-8). The Dirt Devil 12s then shutout the Flamez (11-0) and Thunder again (13-0) to be crowned champion of the Silver Division and have now won 11 straight games to sit 19-10-1 on the season.

In the win over the Energy, Hannah Gubbels came away with two doubles and five RBI as Sam Gubbels singled twice and drove in two runs. Hailey Schroeder singled three times; Liberty Titiml, Jersi Jensen and Kierah Haase all singled and drove in a run; Taytem Ellis singled twice as Rylin Hall and Delaney Kruse both singled.

Hall picked up the complete game win in three innings allowing three earned runs off of three hits while striking out four batters and walking three.

During the first win over the Thunder, Hannah Gubbels recorded a double, triple and home run to go along with five RBI as Schroeder singled three times and drove in two runs. Caitlyn Mostek doubled twice, added a single and drove in four runs while Sam Gubbels and Emily Jaeger both singled twice and drove in a run. Natalie Kruger singled and drove in a run; Madelyn Jahnke doubled and drove in a run; Jersi Jensen doubled and Sammi Gubbels singled.

Sammi Gubbels picked up the complete game win in three innings allowing three earned runs off of two hits while striking out four batters and walking five.

From the win over the Sparks, Schroeder singled three times, doubled and drove in two runs as Sam Gubbels singled four times and drove in six runs. Hannah Gubbels added two doubles and three RBI; Sammi Gubbels doubled and drove in a run; Taytem Ellis singled twice and drove in two runs; Jeri Jensen singled and drove in a run; Haase and Titiml singled and Delaney Kruse accounted for a RBI.

Hall picked up the win in an inning and two-thirds striking out three batters. Kruse started the opening inning and a third allowing eight earned runs off of three hits while striking out two batters and walking five.

In the win over the Flamez, Emily Jaeger doubled and drove in two runs as Ellis doubled and drove in a run. Sammi Gubbels and Jersi Jensen both singled and drove in a run; Natalie Kruger singled as Sam Gubbels and Madelyn Janke accounted for a RBI each.

Sammi Gubbels picked up the complete game shutout win in four innings allowing one hit while striking out 10 batters and walking four.

During the second win over the Thunder, Hannah Gubbels recorded three singles while Sam Gubbels singled and drove in four runs. Jersi Jensen doubled twice and drove in a run; Delaney Kruse added a single, double and three RBI; Haase singled twice; Ellis singled and drove in two runs as Schroeder accounted for an RBI.

Hall picked up the complete game shutout win in three innings allowing one hit while striking out six batters.

The Dirt Devil 12s will next host Oakland on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m.

 

Moving into the 18 & Under category, the Dirt Devil 16/18s placed second after opening with a loss to the South Dakota Edge (3-2) but winning their final two pool play games Saturday over Parkston (6-2) and Mitchell Venom (8-4). Wayne defeated Yankton Fury 14-1 on Sunday before suffering a 12-6 loss to the South Dakota Edge in the championship game. The Dirt Devil 16/18s are now 9-6-1 on the season.

In the first loss to the Edge, Maysn Dorey tripled, Sidney Biggerstaff doubled as Grace Lindsay and Jamie Gamble both singled. Courtney Bokemper suffered the loss striking out one batter and walking four.

During the win over Parkston, Jenna Trenhaile singled twice as Abby Ankeny tacked on a single and double. Allison Claussen doubled while Bokemper and Dorey both singled. Kayla Fleming picked up the win striking out and walking two batters each.

From the win over Mitchell Venom, Ankeny singled and doubled as Dorey tripled. Gamble, Claussen, Fleming and Bokemper all singled. Bokemper picked up the win striking out two batters and walking three.

In the win over the Yankton Fury, Ankeny recorded a double and grand slam while Gamble singled twice and doubled. Biggerstaff tripled and singled; Lindsay singled three times; Bokemper singled twice; Josie Thompson and Fleming both doubled as Dorey and Trenhaile each singled.

Bokemper picked up the win striking out one batter and walking six.

From the second loss to the Edge, Bokemper singled and doubled as Biggerstaff tripled. Dorey and Ankeny doubled while Gamble and Claussen both singled. Fleming (one strikeout) and Bokemper (one strikeout and four walks) both saw time in the circle.

The Dirt Devil 16/18s will next compete in the Pierce Tourney on Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24.
