#1 Wayne State College Wins Four Set Match At Augie, Beller With Career-High 18 Kills

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Tuesday evening marked the first of two meetings between #1 Wayne State College and Augustana University during a week-night NSIC volleyball outing.

From the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, WSC visited Augustana University.

For just the fifth time this season, Wayne State College went past three sets played and picked up a four-set victory over Augustana University with scores of the match being 25-16, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-19. WSC continues their impressive start to the season with a program-best 19-0 (9-0 NSIC) while the Vikings fell to 12-5 (4-5).

Taya Beller recorded a career-high 18 kills on a .457 attack percentage to go along with a dig and a block while Maggie Brahmer added 14 kills (.312%) and seven blocks (two solo). Rachel Walker finished with 42 assists, nine digs and a kill as Kelsie Cada posted a team-high 17 digs along with seven kills and three blocks.

Jordan McCormick had four kills and 10 digs and Taylor Bunjer tallied three kills, three blocks and a dig as other dig leaders were Jessie Brandl (11), Havyn Heinz (seven) and Brooke Peltz (one).

Brandl tacked on two service aces while Heinz, McCormick, Cada and Walker all had an ace.

Wayne State College outhit Augie, .203 to 0.184 and recorded eight total blocks compared to six by the Vikings.

Augustana had four players finish with double-doubles. Maddy Guetter recorded 19 kills and 10 digs; Kate Reimann added 15 kills and 10 digs; Kia Kriener had 12 kills and 11 digs as Avery Thorson posted 46 assists and 16 digs. Erika Bute led the team in digs with 19.

The two teams will meet once more during the regular season on Tuesday, October 25 at 6 p.m. Pregame coverage will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and waynedailynews.com.

The top-ranked Wayne State College volleyball team will next visit Northern State University on Friday, October 7 at 6 p.m. and play at MSU Moorhead on Saturday, October 8 at 3:30 p.m.
