#1 Wayne State College Secures 3-0 Sweep Over #9 UMD, Held Bulldogs To .063 Attack Percentage

DULUTH, MN – For a second consecutive day, #1 Wayne State College competed on the road at a top 10 NSIC volleyball opponent.

From Romano Gymnasium in Duluth, Minnesota, WSC visited #9 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.

The visiting Wildcats picked up a 25-20, 25-16, 25-15 sweep over UMD. WSC has matched their best start in program history (2010) now 16-0 overall and 6-0 NSIC while the Bulldogs fell to 13-1 (5-1 NSIC).

Taya Beller recorded a team-high 13 kills to go along with two blocks (one solo) and a dig; Kelsie Cada added eight kills, four digs and three blocks as Maggie Brahmer finished with seven kills and 10 blocks (three solo). Rachel Walker posted 29 assists, eight digs and two blocks as Jessie Brandl led the team in digs with 14.

Jordan McCormick had 11 digs, two kills and one block; Taylor Bunjer tacked on two kills, two blocks and two digs as other digs came from Havyn Heinz (eight) and Brooke Peltz (two).

Walker tallied three service aces, McCormick had two aces as Heinz also had an ace.

As a team WSC outhit UMD, 0.193 to 0.063 and recorded 12 blocks compared to six by the Bulldogs.

#1 Wayne State College will return to Rice Auditorium hosting Bemidji State University and Minnesota Crookston on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1.
