WAYNE – A ‘Guest Piano Recital’ will take place this week on the Wayne State campus from an Omaha native.
According to a release from Wayne State College, the recital will be held on Thursday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Ley Theatre of the Brandenburg Education building.
Dr. Stacey Barelos will highlight the Guest Piano Recital with other works by living Nebraska composers of Kory Reeder, James Borchers, Matthew Fuerst and Mari Epstein. Repertoire reflects playful dance, sound explosion, spontaneity and raw energy.
Barelos specializes in the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. As a composer, her works have been performed on five continents and can be heard on the Albany and Blue Griffin labels. In 2019, her piece, ‘Starfish’, was featured at toy piano festivals in Como, Italy and Seoul, South Korea. Her upcoming work, ‘Rooted’, explores modern life in the Midwest.
Barelos received degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Luther College and Bowling Green State University. She teaches at the Omaha Conservatory of Music and the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the native of Omaha also serves as the Education Director for the Omaha Under the Radar Festival.
