WSC Madrigal Singers To Perform Tuesday Evening

WAYNE – The harmonic synthesis of the Madrigal Singers are scheduled to present a unique concert on Tuesday, April 23 on the campus of Wayne State College.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the beautiful natural light and amazing acoustical setting of the Peterson Fine Arts Atrium. Seating is limited, so plan to arive early for the best seats.

Repertoire for the 20-voice group challenges the singers to connote sorrow, swagger and gaiety. Selections include a brand new motet by WSC assistant professor of music Dr. Matthew Haakenson, “Requiem” from the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen and “Dindirin and Cuu, Cucu!” two late 15th/early 16th century villancicos.

The concert features soloists Kathryn Aschoff of David City; Mary Bruegman of Elkhorn; Emma Dahir of Minden, Iowa; Alexandra Linder of Oakland; Jack Osnes of Wayne and Payton Schake of Amherst. Solo selections include standard repertoire by French composer Francis Poulenc, an ancient chant and musical theatre selections from Beauty and the Beast, The Last Five Years and Into the Woods.

The performance is free and open to the public. The singers are conducted by assistant professor of music Matthew Armstrong, assisted by staff accompanist Shelly Armstrong.
