With Expected Rise In Traffic, Don’t Forget To Wear Your Seat Belt

MADISON – Memorial Day is on the horizon, and motor vehicle travel will increase. Therefore, the Madison County Sheriff Department wants everyone to wear their seat belt this holiday weekend.

Along with the Nebraska Department of Transportation and Highway Safety Office (NDOT-HSO), the Click It Or Ticket campaign will run from May 18th-31st. Madison County Sheriff’s Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to enforcement of the seat belt law.

Sheriff Todd Volk wants people to know that injury or death can be prevented with the proper use of a seat belt and that’s why it’s the law.

In 2018, there were 9,778 unbuckled vehicle occupants killed. In the same year, 56 percent of vehicle occupants killed at night, were not wearing a seat belt. Thus, there’s been an emphasis on nighttime enforcement.

A $25,000 grant from the NDOT-HSO, made the high-visibility patrol possible.
