WISNER – A northeast Nebraska town has been awarded a grant under the Civic and Community Center Financing Fund (CCCFF) program a part of 21 other municipalities last week.
In a release from the Department of Economic Development (DED) on May 15, Governor Pete Ricketts and the DED announced that 22 communities have been selected to receive these grants.
The Wisner City Auditorium has received $375,000.
Funds appropriated for CCCFF typically total around $2.5 million a year. This year, however, the passage of Legislative Bill 940 on April 18, 2018, saw updates to the program and an additional $2 million appropriation for fiscal year 2017-2018. Funding this period subsequently reached approximately $4.5 million. This enabled nine additional municipalities to receive funding during the current round.
Eligible projects under CCCFF include the construction and/or improvement of public community facilities and historic buildings, as well as project planning efforts (cities of Omaha and Lincoln were not eligible under statue). Up to 50% of the costs of a proposed project can be covered.
A competitive program due to high demand and limited funds available for award, CCCFF awards are granted to municipalities whose proposed projects score highest on a scale consisting of preparedness and quality of life metrics, including community impact, local support and visitor attraction. All awards require 1:1 local cost-share.
The CCCFF operates on an annual cycle and is contracted for two years. The letter of intent due date will need to be sent in by January 15, 2019 with an application due date of February 15, 2019. The anticipated award date for next year is scheduled for March 19.
