Winter Returns Thursday Into Friday, Weekend Temps Expected To Rise To Upper 40s/50s

WAYNE – A day after the temperature broke 70 degrees, most of the region will experience rain changing to a wintery mix with winds from the northwest to southeast throughout the day and night.

According to a release from the National Weather Service – Omaha Center, a wintry mix is expected to impact most of the region Thursday into early Friday.

Ice accumulations will range between one to two tenths of an inch with snow and sleet accumulations being less than an inch (generally along and north of I-80). Northwest wind will also gust 25 to 30 mph and, combined with the light ice accumulations, could cause a few power outages. Isolated non severe thunderstorms could occur along and south of I-80.

Friday morning’s commute could be slippery and any icing should diminish Friday afternoon as temperatures warm into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Thursday’s change from rain to wintery mix is expected to hit the upper northeast region between 4 – 7 p.m. Wayne is expected to get between a tenth to a quarter of an inch of ice and less than an inch of snow. NWS officials are also calling for weekend highs of 44 on Saturday and 57 degrees Sunday.
