Winter Fest At Haskell Ag Lab, Upcoming December Events

CONCORD – Make sure to save the date for Winter Fest at the Haskell Ag Lab as HAL officials stated Fall Fest was a huge success.

According to a release, over 100 participants attended the late September event.

The group of adults and children learned about honey extraction, cover crops for the garden, hazelnuts, pollinators, beeswax products, toured the Arboretum as well as enjoyed apple and pear picking in the orchard.

Kids enjoyed painting pumpkins, a scavenger hunt and various other crafts and activities. Everyone enjoyed taking pictures in the festive photo booth and the tasting table that featured apple cider, popcorn, apple and pumpkin snacks.

Up next is Winter Fest scheduled for Saturday, December 3. The time for the event will be from 9 a.m. until noon at the Haskell Ag Lab. Wildlife and Living snow fences, winter preparedness tips, activities and games for children as well as a greenery workshop will be part of the event. The Haskell Ag Lab is located at 57905 866th Road in Concord.

Another upcoming December event will be ‘Solar Electric for Farms, Homes & Businesses’. The Tuesday, December 13 workshop will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. and will help those interested in deciding if solar is right for them. Attendees will learn about how the systems work, safety, the value of electricity, value of incentives and how to evaluate quotes from installers.

F. John Hay, Nebraska Extension Educator, will be the presenter who has 10 years of experience doing solar economic analysis. He has since installed solar at his home in 2017.

This event is sponsored by Nebraska Public Power District, Omaha Public Power District and Lincoln Electric Systems. Other workshops will be held in Lincoln (12/1), Tekamah (12/5), Auburn (12/6), Chadron (12/7), Ogallala (12/8) and Central City (12/15).

Join Haskell Ag Lab officials during their ‘Coffee and Conversations’ event on Tuesday, November 8 at 9 a.m. Coffee, refreshments and conversation will take over the informal meeting with no agenda. Attendees will get to know the staff at the lab and your neighbors.

Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company will be the special guest in November. The group will talk about their fiber internet and will sponsor the morning treats.

Ideas for guest speakers and other suggestions are also welcome.
