Winnebago, Plainview, Plus Stanton Receive Grants From Nebraska Department Of Economic Development

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has selected numerous communities for two types of grants. Winnebago was awarded the Public Works opportunity of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). Plainview and Stanton received Downtown Revitalization Funding under CDBG.

CDBG is a federal program provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. These grants provide flexible funding to help communities tackle their objectives. Common objectives include housing rehabilitation, tourism development, and public works improvements.

The main goal of these grants is to serve low-to-moderate income persons. This typically involves eliminating slum conditions and solving health and safety issues.

Winnebago was one of nine communities that received the Public Works grant. The grant will put $435,000 toward street improvements in Winnebago.

There were five towns awarded with the Downtown Revitalization grant. Plainview and Stanton were two of these towns. Both towns will receive $435,000. Plainview’s project involves commercial rehabilitation, clearance, and demolition. Stanton’s award will be put toward the same efforts as Plainview, in addition to sidewalk work.
