WAYNE – Just about two weeks after releasing his children’s book, Zach Jorgensen will be hosting a book signing event this weekend.

From the 4th Jug in Wayne, the book release party and signing will be Saturday, August 24 from 6 – 8 p.m. Copies of the book “Wheelchairs Aren’t Scary” will be on hand for purchase with signatures available as well.

Zach Jorgensen, 22 of Wayne is a graphic designer, author, motivational speaker, vlogger, and hip-hop artist. He is also in a wheelchair due to being diagnosed with Duchenne (do-schin) Muscular Dystrophy when he was five years old.

The target audience for this book is children between the ages of 3 – 8 who are terrified of wheelchairs. The benefits of this book are to teach children why wheelchairs aren’t scary and allow them to learn by asking questions, according to Jorgensen.

“Not just children in general but people are always staring at the wheelchair because they don’t really understand it,” said Jorgensen. “But children are more terrified of it, they just don’t quite understand, so they try to hide from me.”

Jorgensen, who also illustrated his book, attended Wayne High and recently graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in May of 2019 with a graphic design degree.

Cost to purchase the book at the book signing is $9.99 as signatures cost $5 and the proceeds will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “Wheelchairs Aren’t Scary” was released on Monday, August 12 and can also be purchased on Amazon or at zjmotivation.com.

Zach was compelled to write this book because he noticed that many children are terrified of his wheelchair. Jorgensen would like to continue to do some graphic design work, too.

“As well as write some more books,” Jorgensen added. “I’m pursuing a career in motivational speaking, so hopefully I can get a few speaking opportunities here and there.”
