PONCA – From introduction courses to afternoon family events, Ponca State Park continues their summer activities.

According to a release, each morning from 9 – 11 a.m. will showcase an introductory course.

Pellet rifles will be the topic on Friday for those eight and older with adult supervision as cost is $1 per four clips.

Other weekend introduction courses will be for the shotgun on Saturday for those 12 and older with adult supervision as cost is $7 for a box of 25 shells and slingshot on Sunday for those five and older with adult supervision as cost is $1 for 30 rocks.

All equipment is provided, and park goers are invited to meet and pay at the Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex.

Moving into Friday afternoon participants will have a chance to make your own fishing lure from 1 – 1:45 p.m. Colors, sizes and shapes all react differently under water. Visitors will learn how lures work to catch different species of fish and make their own out of everyday materials. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center between 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. as this event is recommended for ages six and up with adult supervision. Meet behind the Resource and Education Center at 1 p.m. on Friday as cost is $2 per kit.

Then, an event titled ‘Edible Scat’ will last from 3 – 3:45 p.m. where park-goers will learn about using scat to identify animals and what they eat. You’ll be able to mold your own scat with this hands-on activity using tootsie rolls. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center from 8 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. before meeting behind the center at 3 p.m. on Friday as cost is $1 per kit.

From campfire cooking to Oreo moon phases, Saturday afternoon will feature snacks.

Attendees will learn fire safety and tools of the trade before cooking their very own snack during the ‘Campfire Cooking’ event between 1 – 1:45 p.m. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center from 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. before meeting at the west shelter at 1 p.m. Cost is $3 per kit.

Participants will use Oreos from 3 – 3:45 p.m. to lean about the different phases of the moon. Pre-register and pay at the Resource and Education Center from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. before meeting at the west shelter at 3 p.m. Cost is $2 per kit.

Other events include Bingos/Scavenger Hunts/Passports; Search for Sasquatch; Ponca Packs; Old Oak Trail Self-guided Hike, Fishing Tackle Loaner Program and Beginner Mountain Bike Trail (located behind campsite G8).
