More Outdoor Activities Scheduled At Ponca State Park This Week

PONCA – Yet another complete week of activities for the family have been set from Ponca State Park.

Events started Monday and will continue each day through Sunday, July 8.

Tuesday events open with an introduction to pellet rifles from 9 – 11 a.m. Participants must be eight years or older as all the equipment is provided. Cost is $1 per four clips.

Join the Ponca Naturalists for “First Impressions” at 2 p.m. to learn about nature’s creatures and how to look at things differently. Meet at the Resource and Education Center as the cost is $1 per craft. At 7:30 p.m. lift off with Fireworks as there are many animals on the planet that fly too. Come and learn about a few of those animals and how they fly like fireworks during this free event at the Resource and Education Center.

Moving onto Wednesday, July 4, it’s Independence Day and the morning will kick off with an introduction to both archery and muzzleloader from 9 – 11 a.m. All equipment is again provided as participants must be five years old for archery and 12 years or older for muzzleloading. Cost is $1 per six arrows and $1 per two shots for muzzleloading.

In the afternoon, “Bug for Beginners” will begin at 1 p.m. from the Resource and Education Center. This free event will allow participants to join a Ponca State Park Naturalist capture, display and preserve insects. Then at 3 p.m., attendees will have a chance to decorate, design and launch their own paper rockets. Cost is $1 per two rockets.

Before entering the weekend, Ponca State Park will host Thursday events opening with an introduction to pellet rifles and .22 rifles from 9 – 11 a.m. Participants must be eight years or older for pellet rifles and 10 years or older for .22 rifles. Cost is $1 per four clips of pellet rifles and $3 per 10 rounds for the .22.

Park Naturalists will be calling all detectives at 1 p.m. to follow the map, investigate the clues and find out which water pump was poisoned. Back in 1854 people were getting sick all over the place. Park attendees will then have two opportunities to go backwater kayaking at 1 and 3 p.m. Meet and pay at the Resource and Education Center as cost is $12 per person and participants must be 12 years of age or older to join.
