Wayne State Music Department To Be Showcased December 1 – 3

WAYNE – Over the next three evenings, plan on enjoying free concerts put on by Wayne State College students and faculty.

According to a release from Wayne State College, the Mariachi Negro y Oro concert will be Wednesday, December 1; the Jazz Ensemble Concert will be Thursday, December 2 and the WSC String Ensemble Concert will be on Friday, December 3.

Each of these concerts are free and open to the public.

Enjoy traditional Mexican music during the WSC Mariachi concert Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Repertoire highlights several solos by WSC students. This performance will take place at the WSC Music Annex (Praise Assembly of God building, 1000 East 10th Street, Wayne).

Wayne State College will then present their Jazz Ensemble featuring an evening of feel-good music Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Selections include an energetic America The Beautiful by Samuel A. Ward; the contemporary groove Funky Cha-Cha by Arturo Sandoval and a festive swing arrangement of Hark, the Herald Angels Sing arranged by Rich DeRosa. This performance will also be held at the WSC Music Annex (Praise Assembly of God building, 1000 East 10th Street, Wayne).

Close out the week by expecting an expressive performance by the Wayne State College String Ensemble Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Ley Theatre on campus. Repertoire includes the tumultuous, musical seastorm Maelstrom by Katie O’Hara LaBrie and the hauntingly beautiful Songs Without Words by Gustav Holst. This concert will also be livestreamed.
