WAYNE – With Homecoming 2022 just around the corner, Wayne State College officials are hoping to see past graduates and family members reconnect with former classmates, network with fellow alumni, catch up with professors and see all the changes on campus.

According to a release from Wayne State College, Homecoming events will take place Monday, October 3 – Saturday, October 8.

There’ll be a WSC men’s basketball black vs. gold scrimmage on Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m. The scrimmage will take place inside Rice Auditorium.

Planetarium shows will take place on Friday, October 7 at 1:30 and 7 p.m. as well as Saturday, October 8 at 2, 3 and 4 p.m.

Students and community members are invited to help kick off Wayne State College Homecoming activities with a relaxing concert from a WSC alum.

An event titled ‘Party in the Willow Bowl’ will take place on Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. There’ll be a homecoming royalty coronation at 6:30 p.m. on October 6, followed by a pep rally at 6:45 p.m. and a 7 p.m. performance from the Tegan Nissen Band.

All are invited to set out blankets and chairs while enjoying a night under the stars in the beautiful Willow Bowl.

Friday, October 7 highlighted events will include the Natural History Museum Open House ‘Sun, Earth, Universe Exhibit’ from 2 – 5 p.m. (Carhart Science Building Room 113); Campus Art Collection Walking Tour from 3 – 4 p.m. (visit the Student Center Atrium to begin the tour of art pieces displayed on campus); Carhart Math & Science Alumni Reunion from 3 – 5 p.m. (Carhart Science Building, PV Library Room 105) and Opening Reception for the WSC Alumni and Faculty Art Exhibit from 3:30 – 5 p.m. (Nordstrand Visual Arts Gallery, Conn Library).

Grammy Award-winning Chanticleer will provide a free concert open to the public on Friday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. inside Ley Theatre. This will mark the first of the 2022-23 Wayne State College Black and Gold Performing Arts Series.

Saturday, October 8 will mark the Homecoming Parade at 9:30 a.m. from 1st and Main Street north ending around the Willow Bowl followed by ‘Band Day’ at 10:30 a.m. in the Willow Bowl.

The Homecoming WSC football game vs. Minnesota State-Mankato will be at 1 p.m.

This year’s Outstanding Alumni Awards Banquet will take place on Saturday, October 8 from the Frey Conference Suite of the Kanter Student Center. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the banquet to follow around 6:15 p.m. where five individuals will be honored.

They include Dr. Neal Schnoor (Class of ’90 – School of Arts & Humanities); Cheri (McDonald) Polenske (’08 – School of Business & Technology); Dr. Johanna Barnes (’97, ’06 MSE – School of Education & Behavioral Sciences); DaVarryl Williamson (’93 – School of Science, Health, & Criminal Justice) and Dr. Donald Koeber (’70 – Alumni Service Award).

Tickets to the Outstanding Alumni Awards Banquet are $28 per person, which includes the social, dinner, drinks and program. Prior registration is required. Click here to RSVP to attend the banquet.
