Wayne State College COVID Update, Foundation Cancels 2020 Homecoming

WAYNE – Each week Wayne State College will be reporting data with the goal of keeping the campus and community informed about COVID-19 at WSC.

According to a social media post from the Wayne State College Twitter account, the total number of positive cases for employees and students, the number of recovered cases as well as the number of active positive cases were released.

As of Monday, August 31 there were 10 positive cases with eight being recovered. Three other individuals have gone into quarantine/isolation at home prior to the start of classes on August 17. Overall cases were first reported on August 14.

School officials are asking that everyone follow all guidelines and requirements regarding the four pillars of hygiene, masks, social distancing and self-screening.

Another announcement was released Tuesday coming from the WSC Foundation office which has made the decision to cancel/postpone all alumni events for Homecoming 2020 this fall. The reasoning was due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and Wayne State’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming community to their students, staff and faculty.

The annual trustee meeting will move to a zoom format on Friday, October 2 at 1:30 p.m. as invites and instructions will be sent to all trustees. The 2020 Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet has been postponed to the spring of 2021 in conjunction with Wildcat Athletic events

Other events postponed until 2021 will be the Outstanding Alumni Social & Banquet; Honored Classes Brunch and student activities.

Other programs and activities are still happening through the Student Activities Office. Like the Student Activities Board on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at WSC SAB to stay updated on events.

Also, the homecoming parade has been canceled but plans are still in the works for a possible Marching Band Competition this fall. Visit wsc.edu/music for updates on a future Band Day.
