Wayne Speech Team Places Third, Individuals Highlighted

ALBION – After having their first speech meet called off due to weather in mid-January, the Wayne High speech team began their season over the weekend.

WHS competed in the Boone Central/Newman Grove Invite in Albion on Saturday, January 25.

As a team, Wayne High brought home 11 medals in 19 events placing third in the varsity sweepstakes with a partial team.

Top performances were Maiah Davis, second in Novice Extemporaneous; Kaden Hopkins, second in Humorous and Claire Lindsay, runner-up in Persuasive while Liam Spieker, finished third in Entertainment; Nikki Fertig, took third in Novice Informative and Hannah Vick, placed third in Serious Prose and fourth in Poetry. Other individual results came from Coby Dickes, fifth in Novice Humorous; Isaac Davis, fifth in Extemporaneous; Orion Spieker, sixth in Varsity Humorous Prose as well as the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Bo Armstrong, Kaden Hopkins, Alexis Hamik, Ellie Jech and Courtney Brink came in sixth.

The next speech meet for Wayne High will be the Hartington/Hartington Cedar Catholic Invitational on Saturday, February 1.
