Wayne Speech Results From Battle Creek, JV Team Finishes Second

BATTLE CREEK – With district speech action approaching this Saturday, members of the Wayne Varsity and JV speech teams recently participated in a weekend invitational.

Wayne competed in the Battle Creek Invite on Saturday bringing home 22 individual medals.

The JV team secured seven first place finishes from Coby Dickes in Persuasive; Brayden Woehler in Entertainment; Alec Schaffer in Humorous; Maddie Franta in Serious Prose; Ceilus Ibarra in Poetry; Aiden Cliff and Maddie Franta in Duet as well as Alec Schaffer, Norah Armstrong, Yama Kantai, Ceilus Ibarra and Olivia Hanson in OID.

In the JV individual sweepstakes, Wayne nailed down four of the top six slots led by Maddie Franta, first; Ceilus Ibarra, second; Alec Schaffer, third and Norah Armstrong, sixth.

In the team competition, Wayne finished a close second, two points behind champion West Holt.

Other top results came from Norah Armstrong, second in Poetry; Alondra Vega, third in Serious Prose; Olivia Hanson, third in Informative; Yama Kantai, fourth in Serious Prose; Evan Allemann, fifth in Informative and Abi Hawthorne, sixth in Entertainment.

In Varsity action, Parker Kesting, second in Extemporaneous; Kaden Hopkins and Brooklyn Bierbower second in Duet; the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Kaden Hopkins, Orion Spieker, Ashton Brandow, Easton Blecke and Ethan Wibben fourth; Orion Spieker ninth in Humorous Prose and Maiah Davis finished tenth overall in Persuasive.

Next up for the Wayne High speech team will be the B-3 District contest on Saturday, March 5 at Columbus Scotus.
