Wayne Public Library Shares Project Updates, Services Being Provided

WAYNE – The final Friday Chamber Percs in the month of April was held this past weekend where community members were updated on what’s coming up including information from the Wayne Public Library.

The virtual event airs live each Friday at 10:15 a.m. on the Wayne, NE Facebook page and has been put in place of Friday morning chamber coffee to follow the social distancing guidelines.

Executive Director of Wayne Area Economic Development, Luke Virgil opened Chamber Percs by talking about businesses having the option to purchase chicken show t-shirts for their employees.

“We have our business discount and that is for group orders,” said Virgil. “That is going to go through May 15, so please be sure to contact the chamber office either through email, phone, through Facebook or whatever you need to do. Let us know and we’ll get that put together.”

To promote the Chicken Show, all businesses are encouraged to wear the official 2020 Chicken Shirt on Fridays leading up to Chicken Show. For businesses who purchase five or more shirts for their employees to wear, they’ll receive a 10% discount off of the total order. Sizes available include adult XS-adult 3XL, excluding kid sizes.

June 1 has also been set for the assessment date to see if the 40th annual Chicken Show will be held at normally from July 10-12 or be moved to the alternate date to Saturday, September 12.

The fourth scavenger hunt has been posted on the Wayne, NE Facebook page themed ‘Old & New’.

Library Director, Heather Headley joined Virgil as this past week’s host during Chamber Percs. Headley added they’re taking advantage of the closure to complete a few different projects.

“We did complete an inventory of 30,000 some items that we do have on the shelves,” Headley added. “So, every single item was scanned and looked at. Then we have started working on painting the library and we are also tackling a bathroom remodel during this time.”

This past week was also National Library Week from April 19 – 25 and library has plans to do some of the events once they reopen.

The Wayne Public Library is currently offering a curbside pick-up service.

“Which is you can check out materials,” Headley mentioned. “Books, magazines, audio books, DVDs from our collection and we’ll have them ready for you to pick up at a scheduled time.”

Visit cityofwayne.org/library for further details about the curbside service. Patrons can call 402-375-3135 or go online to place holds through the library catalog.

Staff members are at the library Monday’s, Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Headley also talked more about the Libby App that offers eBooks and downloadable audio books on all platforms from your smartphone, kindle, tablet and computer.

“You have to have a library card and it will walk you straight through what you’d like to do,” said Headley. “So, first you got to find our library and then you’ll put in your library card number and then at that point you’ll be able to go in and start checking out books.”
