WAYNE – With the school season winding down, Wayne Public Library officials are excited about their May calendar of events.
According to a release, along with the continued events of Toddler Time, coloring nights and book clubs, several other activities are being planned for this month.
Nebraska Public Media, in partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and the UNL Bee Lab are encouraging events that celebrate bees, pollinators and native plants. This initiative is supported by PBS NATURE and HHMI Tangled Bank Studies.
Join the Wayne Public Library on Tuesday, May 17 at 6 p.m. in a screening of the documentary ‘My Garden of a Thousand Bees’ and join the library for a wildflower planting demonstration. Participants will receive a free packet of wildflower seeds to create your own wildflower garden.
The first of Thrifts & Gifts sales at the Wayne Public Library will take place Thursday, May 20. The event will feature outdoor parking lot thrift, craft, art and wares sale open to the public. Vendors are still welcome to sign-up as future dates include June 10, August 5 and September 16. Time of the sale will last from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Call the library to reserve your free spot. There is no admission fee for shoppers.
Mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 25 as the Wayne Public Library begins their Summer reading program. Join the library as they welcome in Magician Jeff Quinn at 2 p.m. on May 25 from the City Auditorium. This 40-45 minute show is full of fishy tricks, boatloads of jokes and messages that promote reading and books like ‘One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and Treasure Island’. Expect audience participation and family-friendly humor.
The Adult Book Club will meet on Tuesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. in the library conference room. This month’s book discussion for the new group will be ‘The Duke and I by Julia Quinn’. Later in the month, the traditional book club will discuss ‘One Girl in Auschwitz’ by Sara Leibovits and Eti Elboim on Tuesday, May 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the library conference room.
Miss Kim will continue to lead Toddler Time early in the month on Wednesday’s or Thursday’s at 10 a.m. The last Toddler Time of the season will be on Thursday, May 12 at 10 a.m.
Adult coloring will resume on Tuesday, May 10 at 6 p.m. while an ‘After School’ coloring night will also take place on Friday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m.
The Needle Night group will also meet each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. from the library.
The Wayne Public Library will be closed on Sunday, May 29 and Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day. Summer hours will begin after Memorial Day and the library will be closed each Sunday during the summer season.
Wayne Public Library regular hours, until Memorial Day are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday’s from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday’s from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and between 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday’s.
