WAYNE – Summer reading is in full swing at the Wayne Public Library as June and July have activities for all ages.
According to a release, youth and adult programing highlight the Wayne Public Library Summer Reading Program (SRP).
This week, those in grades 5 – 8 are invited to chalk the sidewalks starting at 2 p.m. while the new adult book club will meet at 7 p.m. in the library conference room on Tuesday, June 7 to discuss ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ by Walter Tevis.
Sidewalk chalk continues on Wednesday, June 8 for ages birth to four at 10 a.m.; grades kindergarten to second at 11 a.m. and grades third to fourth at 2 p.m. at the library.
High school students will be able to create their own sugar scrub on Thursday at 2 p.m. while a ‘Thrifts and Gifts’ sale will take over the library parking lot from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The outdoor parking lot thrift, craft, art and wares sales are open to the public as other Friday’s include August 5 and September 16.
Other Wayne Public Library June highlighted events include adult coloring night on Tuesday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m. Juneteenth story time on Friday, June 17 at 10 a.m. from Bressler Park and the traditional book club on Tuesday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the library conference room to discuss ‘The Friendship List’ by Susan Mallery. Each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. will allow for the Needle Night group to meet.
Also, rules for the Youth Summer Reading Program reading minutes include each book must be checked out from the Wayne Public Library (either a physical book or an e-book using Libby); each of the three levels requires five hours of reading/listening (return completed form to library for prizes and coupons once level is finished) and after completing all three levels, Youth SRP participants may continue reading for additional entries for more prizes.
The Youth SRP final day to turn in reading minutes will be on Saturday, June 25. The Summer Reading Program Party will then be on Wednesday, June 29 at 2 p.m. from the library where youth will enjoy a movie and popcorn.
Sign-up also continues for those six and older to participate in the Nebraska Virtual Reality Game Truck. The Thursday, June 30 VR Truck will offer an African Safari at 10 a.m. and Walk on the Moon at 11:30 a.m. Guests can only sign-up for one program as space is limited to 25 each. The Wayne Public Library will be closed on Monday, June 20 in observance of Juneteenth. Library hours include Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Saturday between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
