HASTINGS – Following a weekend off with the Easter holiday, the Wayne High power drive team went back to work for their third event of the 2022 season this past weekend.
From Motorsports Park Hastings (MPH), the Blue Devils competed on a one-mile road course battling harsh winds throughout the event.
Advanced Class Car A22, driven by Brett Johnson, took an early lead and maintained it throughout the hour race. Another fast pit stop ensured the A22 stayed in the lead and won the race completing 29 laps with a six lap lead over second place.
Car A22 is undefeated this season and is on a seven race winning streak.
In the Exhibition Class, Car E39, driven by Matthew Kufner-Rodriguez, started the rally trailing the leader but quickly made the pass for the lead on lap two. Car E39 was able to maintain the lead while clocking the fastest lap time of the day prior to the pitstop, where the pit crew of Maria Maturey, Nina Hammer, Braden Adams and Landen Roeber had one of the fastest pits of the day, to get the Blue Devils back on the track.
Unfortunately, the wind played a role in the last eight minutes of the rally which slowed the E39 down. The E39 finished the race in third place with 31 laps.
The Wayne High power drive team will conclude their schedule with the 2022 EVERON Power Drive State Championships on Saturday April 30 at 1100 east 10th street (First National Bank Card Center). Admission is free to come and support the Blue Devils as they compete for their 10th state championship. Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. with competition beginning at noon.
