WAYNE – For the second straight year, speech teams from across northeast Nebraska will be in Wayne for a weekend invite.

According to a release from head WHS speech coach, Dwaine Spieker, the Second annual Wayne High/Wayne State Classic Invitational will be held on Saturday, February 8 starting at 8 a.m.

Twenty-five schools and 450 students from all over northeast Nebraska will participate in the tournament.

Students will participate in all nine NSAA speech events as the classic will feature three-rounds of varsity-only tournament competition.

Spieker stated, “we’re in the heart of speech season, and students need extra feedback to make those final improvements for conference and districts. A three-round tournament helps ensure that.”

Wayne High returns a number of state qualifiers to this year’s team to go along with some new talents.

Admission to the event is free and is open to the public.

Other upcoming events for the Wayne High speech team includes their ‘Home Show’ on Friday, February 14 at 6 p.m. from the Wayne Jr/Sr high school before competing in the Battle Creek Invite on Saturday, February 22 and Norfolk High Invite on Saturday, March 7.

Both the Mid State Speech Meet (Wednesday, March 11) and NSAA B-4 District Speech Meet (Saturday, March 14) will be held on the Wayne State campus. The 2020 NSAA State Speech Meet is scheduled for Thursday, March 26 from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
