BATTLE CREEK – The speech season came to an end ahead of postseason competition this past weekend for Wayne High.
From Battle Creek Public Schools, WHS took part in the Battle Creek Invitational on Saturday, February 27.
The Blue Devil speech team finished fourth place in another tight race behind Mid State Conference rivals Crofton, Boone Central and Pierce respectively.
In the individual sweepstakes, Wayne’s Parker Kesting finished in second place in the JV division and Christopher Woerdemann finished fifth in the Varsity Division.
Champion results favored Liam Spieker in Entertainment and Isaac Davis in Extemporaneous.
Other top finishers on the weekend went to Parker Kesting, second in JV Informative and first in JV Extemp.; the OID of Alondra Vega, Aidan Cliff, Ethan Wibben, Ashton Brandow, and Maddie Franta, second in JV; Christopher Woerdemann, runner-up in Extemp.; the Duet of Christopher Woerdemann and Dylan Anderson, third as well as Hannah Vick, fifth in Poetry.
Other results were Kaden Hopkins, seventh in Humorous; the Duet of Hannah Vick and Brooklyn Bierbower, eighth; Easton Blecke, ninth in Serious Prose; Dylan Anderson, ninth in Humorous; the OID team of Orion Spieker, Kaden Hopkins, Easton Blecke, Brooklyn Bierbower, and Christopher Rutenbeck, ninth; Maiah Davis, eleventh in Persuasive and tenth in Extemp. as well as Isaac Davis, twelfth in Informative.
Wayne High will host the B-3 District Speech Meet on the campus of Wayne State College this Saturday, March 6.
