WAYNE – With two speech competitions being held on the Wayne State campus in March, the Wayne High/Wayne State Classic Invitational recently took place over the weekend.
From the WSC campus Saturday, 24 schools featuring roughly 400 northeast Nebraska students participated in the Second annual WHS/WSC Invite.
Wayne High finished fifth place in the team sweepstakes.
Liam Spieker was the lone Blue Devil champion in the Entertainment category.
The OID team of Dylan Anderson, Walker Hochstein, Isaac Davis, Christopher Woerdemann and Liam Spieker followed in second; Christopher Woerdemann, second in Extemporaneous; Isaac Davis, fourth in Extemporaneous and Orion Spieker, sixth in Humorous.
Other individual results came from Kaden Hopkins, eighth in Humorous; Ethan Tyson, ninth in Entertainment; Hannah Vick, tenth in Poetry; Ruben Vega, eighteenth in Extemporaneous as well as the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Bo Armstrong, Courtney Brink, Elle Jech, Alexis Hamik, and Kaden Hopkins, eighteenth.
The Wayne High speech team would like to thank the many volunteers who helped with Saturday’s event along with Wayne State College for being the host.
Members with the Blue Devil speech team will next welcome in community members for their Home Show scheduled for Friday, February 14 at 5 p.m. from the high school.
The Wayne High speech team will close out the month competing in the Battle Creek Invite on Saturday, February 22 and Norfolk High Invite on Saturday, March 7. Both the Mid State Speech Meet (Wednesday, March 11) and NSAA B-4 District Speech Meet (Saturday, March 14) will be held on the Wayne State campus. The 2020 NSAA State Speech Meet is scheduled for Thursday, March 26 from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
