Wayne County Budget And Final Tax Rate Hearings To Be Held, ARPA Grant Applications Seek Approval

WAYNE – A series of meetings will take place throughout Tuesday morning highlighting the budget and final tax rate for the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.

From the Wayne County Courthouse courtroom at 9 a.m., commissioners will first hear from Executive Director for Wayne Area Economic Development, Luke Virgil on a budget request.

Wayne County Treasurer, Tammy Paustian will address interest rates and investments prior to a recess of the regular meeting.

The Wayne County 2022-23 Budget Hearing is scheduled for 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday. Commissioners will hear more about the presentation of the budget while receiving taxpayer support, opposition or comments on the proposed budget.

The same will follow for the 2022-23 Final Tax Rate at 9:20 a.m.

Commissioners will reconvene the meeting and act on increasing the restricted funds by 1%, approve the 2022-23 budget and approve the 2022 tax rate.

ARPA grant applications from Winside Fire & Rescue Department, Wayne County Safety Committee and Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department will be reviewed prior to the board set to review and approve the funds payment agreement.

Highway Superintendent, Mark Casey will provide updates to the commissioners, take action to certify completion of CBMP5, host culvert bid openings at 9:45 a.m. and will be joined by Mark Mainelli with Mainelli Wagner and Associates for project engineering.

Closing out the meeting, Jill Brodersen, who is an architect, will go over the courthouse window replacement.
