Wayne Chicken Show Taking Over Wayne America July 8 – 10

WAYNE – Three days in Wayne America have been set aside for the 42nd annual Wayne Chicken Show this weekend.

From Henoween on Friday, July 8 in downtown Wayne; Bressler Park on Saturday, July 9 as well as a car show on Sunday, July 10 on 2nd Street will feature the main events.

This year’s theme is “Chicken’s Guide to the Galaxy: The Meaning of Life, the Universe and Egg-rything” which is a play off of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

Friday morning Chamber Coffee will be hosted by the Chicken Show Committee at 10 a.m. on July 8 in the 200 block of Main Street.

Signs will go up at 2:30 p.m. to close down Main Street and detour traffic to allow for the food and craft vendors as well as inflatables to set up featuring games and prizes.

The World’s Largest Chicken Dance is at 6 p.m. Friday night put on by KTCH/KCTY at 2nd and Main which will then lead into stage activities at 3rd and Main.

The cement chicken auction will be at 7 p.m., ‘Saucy Hot Wing Eating Contest’ at 8 p.m. along with free entertainment featuring a comedy show with Glenn Tickle, Pat Janssen and Kaden Hopkins.

The Light Up the Sky fireworks show will start at 10 p.m. with music playing on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9. The display will be closer to the Summer Sports Complex.

This year’s parade will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The route will start at 1st and Main Street and go north up to 10th and Main before going towards Bressler Park and then south on Lincoln Street ending at 7th Street.

Saturday Chicken Show Contests will begin at 1 p.m. with the ‘Chicken Scratch for Prizes’ event, ‘Live Chicken Flying’ and ‘Best Chicken Legs’.

The Wayne Chicken Show National Cluck-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. before moving into the ‘Hard Boiled Egg Eating’ contest.

Other afternoon free events include the ‘Rubber Chicken Chuck’, ‘Egg Toss’ as well as ‘Egg Drop/Catch’ lasting until around 4 p.m. on Saturday at Bressler Park.

The Wayne Community Schools Foundation will be hosting their All-Class Reunion starting at 6 p.m. from the City Auditorium on Saturday. Sons of Satan will then provide music from 8 p.m. until midnight.

Another event taking place at Bressler Park Saturday evening will be a free movie (original Space Jam) put on by the Majestic Theatre at 9 p.m. (after dark)

Other free entertainment will be provided on Saturday at noon with Mike & Jay along with Bressler-fest offering music in the park featuring AquaDog at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Both events will be at Bressler Park.

Sunday’s highlight will be the Crowing Motors Car Show with all vehicles welcome at no cost on 2nd Street between Main and Pearl Streets. Prizes will be awarded on spectator vote. Reach out to Kirk Sommerfeld at 402-375-4996 for more information.
