Wayne Chicken Show Opens Friday During Henoween, Continues Through Weekend

WAYNE – In less than 24 hours the 2018 Wayne Chicken Show will open with sidewalk sales, fireworks, a parade, poker run and of course, chickens!

Since 1981 when the Wayne Regional Arts Council hosted the first show, Chicken Days has grown to a three-day event attracting families from all over. The Wayne Chicken Show will host main events on Friday, July 13 (Henoween) in downtown Wayne; Saturday, July 14 from Bressler Park and on Sunday, July 15 at the airport.

Nancy Johnson has been a part of the Chicken Show dating back to 1993 and is the current Chair.

“Well we started out from a one-day festival back in the day and now we’re up to three days,” said Johnson. “In the most recent year’s, we’ve added Friday night Henoween with more activities.”

This year’s theme for the Chicken Show, is “Welcome to Fabulous Wayne America”.

Henoween activities will begin with the flea market and sidewalk sales setting up at 8 a.m. on Friday. The community is also invited to Chamber Coffee Friday morning at 10 a.m. in the 200-block alley on Main Street, according to Johnson.

“We reorganize the fair board for bringing in the stage,” Johnson mentioned. “We recognize our committee (and) tell everybody about kind of the happenings that are going on.”

Abby Schademann is the Marketing, Events and Tourism Coordinator with Wayne Area Economic Development. She is a representative from the Chamber for the Chicken Show Committee.

This will be Schademann’s second year working during the event as she talked about the difference from just attending.

“You get to do some fun random things, like hang shirts,” Schademann added. “Attending it, you just kind of get to check everything out and really enjoy the day; you know, really take in the full effect of the Chicken Show.”
