WAYNE – The community of Wayne once again rallied in support of the local bank LifeServe Blood Center in early July.
During the 4th of July week, a drastic decrease in donations was shown. A blood drive was held at the Wayne Fire Hall on July 7 where 19 of the 24 donors at the drive who were eligible to give cumulated 26 units of blood in which 72 lives were saved.
According to a release from the LifeServe Blood Center, two donors hit milestones at the drive as well. Todd Greunke of Winside hit a four-gallon milestone now impacting 96 lives throughout his many donations and Troy Reynolds of Wayne has now saved 264 local lives after hitting his 11-gallon milestone with LifeServe.
Upcoming blood drives in Wayne will be on Thursday, July 26 from the Wayne Fire Hall (Noon – 6 p.m.); Tuesday, August 7 from Grace Lutheran Church (1 – 6 p.m.) and back at the fire hall on Thursday, August 23 from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Other opportunities to donate blood around the area include as early as next Tuesday, July 17 from the Pender Fire Hall (11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.). Also, visit the Hartington VFW on Monday, July 23 from 12:30 – 6 p.m. for a blood drive.
